Butterfly Survey 2017

This year we are running our second butterfly survey. Organised by our “Survey Officer” David Coupe and forming part of the United Kingdom Butterfly Monitoring Scheme (UKBMS), our survey runs from the 01st April 2017 for 26 weeks.

We’ll be comparing the results to our “2016 Butterfly Survey”, although it will be too soon to draw any long term trends. The results of the survey will help provide a picture of the health of the UK’s butterfly populations and of course of our own Bradgers Hill. The results will also be fed into work to try and secure Bradgers Hill designation as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

The survey involves walking a 1.7 kilometre transect (set route) anytime between  the hours of 10:00 and 15:00 on as many days as possible. We’ll post the final results here at the end of the survey.

We are looking for individuals to volunteer to walk the route on as many days as they can. Don’t worry, even if you can only do one day, that is of benefit to us.

If you are interested in taking part in the butterfly survey then please do get in contact with David Coupe. He can talk you through the whole process and provide you with a handy “Butterfly Pack” to get you on your way. It would be great to have you along.
